MSOMERA,

Education, women’s empowerment and improved access to social services are receiving renewed attention in Msomera following plans by Mimute Women Organization to work with local leaders in addressing challenges facing the community.

Speaking during a visit to Msomera, Rose Njilo of Mimute Women Organization said the organisation seeks to work as a partner with the Government by identifying challenges affecting communities and supporting efforts to find practical solutions in collaboration with local authorities.

Njilo said the visit was aimed at assessing the actual living conditions of residents and exploring ways in which women and children can benefit from opportunities available in the area.

Eight Children Set to Receive Education Support.

As an initial intervention, Mimute has pledged to work with local leaders to identify eight children facing financial challenges that could prevent them from continuing with their education.

Njilo said the initiative is intended to ensure that parents’ financial difficulties do not become a barrier to children accessing education.

She urged local leaders to work closely with Mimute to identify families whose children require support so that appropriate assistance can be provided.

The organisation is also considering supporting two or three women’s groups, including savings and lending groups, with the aim of strengthening women’s economic capacity.

According to Njilo, empowering women economically can contribute to improved family welfare and increase parents’ ability to meet their children’s educational needs.

Bringing Essential Services Closer to the People.

Njilo also highlighted the importance of improving access to essential services, particularly healthcare, water and education, noting that women and children are among those most affected when such services are located far from their communities.

She said bringing services closer to residential areas can reduce the burden on women, who often carry significant responsibility for fetching water and caring for their families.

She further called for continued efforts to create safe environments for women and children while promoting equality and respect for their rights.

New Opportunities and Livelihoods in Msomera

Speaking separately, Musima Ward Councillor Morisa Melubo said residents who moved to Msomera from different areas, including Ngorongoro, have begun building new lives through various economic activities.

He said that while many residents previously depended largely on pastoralism, they have increasingly engaged in agriculture, livestock keeping, business, motorcycle transport, retail shops and other productive activities after settling in Msomera.

Melubo said the presence of government experts and access to professional advice has helped residents adapt to the new environment and identify suitable ways of improving their livelihoods.

Infrastructure Continues to Improve.

The councillor said Msomera has continued to see improvements in infrastructure, including roads, schools and health services.

He said the area has more than 50 local roads, in addition to major roads connecting different parts of the community.

In the education sector, he said Msomera has primary and secondary schools, including Dr. Philip Mpango Secondary School and Musomera Secondary School, alongside other schools serving residents.

He also said some students have demonstrated talent in different areas and secured opportunities to join special talent schools.

Strengthening Government–Stakeholder Collaboration

Melubo said continued cooperation between Mimute and local authorities could contribute to addressing community needs and accelerating development initiatives.

He called for Mimute and local government leaders to work together in identifying priority areas where available resources can have the greatest impact.

The visit has therefore placed emphasis on three key areas—children’s education, women’s economic empowerment and access to social services—which are expected to form the basis of continued collaboration between Mimute Women Organization and the leadership of Msomera.
